Arkansas Fried Bologna Sandwich

Arkansas Fried Bologna Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of bologna (thicker slices preferred)
  • 2 slices of white bread (or buns)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for frying)
  • 1 slice of American cheese (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • Pickles or onions (optional)
  • Black pepper (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Heat the skillet:

    • Place a skillet over medium heat and add the butter to melt.
  2. Fry the bologna:

    • Make a few small slits around the edges of the bologna slices to prevent them from curling while frying.
    • Place the bologna slices in the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until they are nicely browned and slightly crispy around the edges.
  3. Add cheese (optional):

    • If you like a cheese-topped sandwich, add a slice of American cheese on top of the bologna during the last minute of frying, allowing it to melt.
  4. Prepare the bread:

    • While the bologna is frying, lightly toast the bread (optional) or leave it soft for a traditional feel.
    • Spread mustard and mayonnaise on one or both slices of bread.
  5. Assemble the sandwich:

    • Place the fried bologna on the prepared bread, add any optional toppings like pickles or onions, and season with black pepper.
  6. Serve:

    • Cut the sandwich in half and serve with chips or a side of coleslaw for a classic Southern meal.
